Jersey City police respond to active shooter situation at bodega, officer shot: reportsThe Hudson County SWAT team is engaged in a shootout with at least one suspect after they opened fire near a kosher supermarket in Jersey City, N.J., Tuesday afternoon, according to multiple reports.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said Tuesday that multiple police officers had been shot in an hour-long standoff in a Jersey City neighborhood.

SWAT teams and federal agents responded to the chaotic scene, and police blocked off the major thoroughfare where the shooting occurred.

Fox News said two gunmen had been apprehended and another is still on the scene.

Some local reports suggested at least one New Jersey police officer was shot in the shoulder, while others, including WNBC and NJ.com said two cops were shot. A law enforcement source told WNBC the situation was an “ambush.”

The police officer, who was reportedly undercover, was transported to a medical center with an apparent shoulder injury but their condition was not immediately clear.

A gunman is said to have fired a weapon while in Bay View Cemetery, and the officer was wounded, WABC-TV reported, before fleeing to the store on Martin Luther King Drive.

A federal law enforcement source told Fox News that four hostages were released, and that there is a possible third shooter on the loose

The Newark Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is also responding to the scene.

Several local schools are placed on lockdown while the situation is ongoing, officials said. Jersey City Public Schools tweeted “all students and staff are safe.”

NJ Transit has suspended Hudson–Bergen Light Rail service and bus service on the West Side Branch.
